Name: Kristen C
Time at CFJ:
I joined when they opened in December.
What have you gained since joining CrossFit Julia?
I've gained strength and self confidence, but more importantly it's what I've lost. 25 pounds and 2 pants sizes!
What were some of your fears before joining CFJ?
That I wouldn't be able to complete the daily workouts, and not being able to stick with it and make a commitment.
What is your favorite thing about CFJ?
I love the people I get to hang out with everyday. Both my co-workers that go with me and Shawn and Julia who put up with us.
What keeps you committed to the CrossFit program?
The people that are involved keep me going every day, and also seeing the physical results helps a lot. It doesn't hurt that they play a lot of 80's music to keep me pumped up either.
What makes the CrossFit Julia experience special to you?
I love that there is someone who comes up with the daily workout for me every day so I don't get bored or stuck in a rut.
Would you refer someone to CFJ and why?
Absolutely! I've already referred several people and will continue to do so. This place is starting to feel like a second home to me and I appreciate them so much.

What have you gained since joining CrossFit Julia?
I have gained confidence, strength, goals, and the mind set that I can do anything that I put my mind to
What were some of your fears before joining CFJ?
That I would not be able to do it, that it would be to hard for me, and that my injury would not allow for me to accomplish my goals
What is your favorite thing about CFJ?
The challenge, the people and the commitment that the trainers have to help you achieve your goals!
What keeps you committed to the CrossFit program?
The results and the challenge, I love it!
What makes the CrossFit Julia experience special to you?
That I am doing things that I never thought I would be able to do, I am seeing results that would have taken a lot longer to achieve elsewhere, I am building confidence in areas that I never thought mattered to me, being fit has become more and more important for me and my long term health and crossfit has helped me to see that. And crossfit has become a second home for me I love the people! Crossfit is truly an amazing experience and journey that I can't wait to see what the future holds!
What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit?
To never give up, to let the challenge of crossfit help you to achieve your goals and to learn to love it and hate it!
Would you refer someone to CrossFit Julia and why?
Yes! because I want people to feel the same way that I do, it is an experience that can only make you a stronger person physically and mentally!

What have you gained since joining CrossFit Julia?
I have totally changed my attitude about gym workouts. I never considered
myself a "gym person", but I have found it fun and rewarding to work out with
friends and coworkers at CrossFit Julia.
What were some of your fears before joining CFJ?
Never having joined a gym of any kind, I thought I would be too intimidated,
that it would be all pain and no fun, and that I would be ashamed because I was
middle aged and very out of shape.
What is your favorite thing about CFJ?
That the environment is both challenging and friendly. We push ourselves, but
everyone who comes there seems to be friendly and encouraging, whether they
already know each other or not. I also think it is great that massage is part of
the program, for relaxation & recovery.
What keeps you committed to the CrossFit program?
Every week I do at least one thing I thought I could not do.
What makes the CrossFit Julia experience special to you?
It is close enough to the office to make a lunch workout with friends and
coworkers possible.
What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit?
Don't psych yourself out by reading the workouts and watching the videos
before you go if it makes you think "I can't do that". Just go, start where you
are, and find out how much you can do. You may surprise yourself - and you will
definitely get stronger!
Would you refer someone to CrossFit Julia and why?
Yes, for all the reasons above. :-)

What have you gained since joining CrossFit Julia?
I gained a sense of confidence about myself as an athlete. I have never played sports and always felt out of place in a gym. But now I not only feel like I belong but I also enjoy working out. I love the variety each day and the compliments I get on my how I look feel pretty good also.
What were some of your fears before joining CFJ?
I was afraid of working out with other people. I am sort of a klutz and I never played any sports or felt very athletic. I worried about joining a gym where all my insecurities around sports would be surfaced. But Shaun and Julia were great and my fears disappeared and although I might still be a klutz when I try something new it is no big deal and I know they will break down the steps so I will have success.
What is your favorite thing about CFJ?
It is too hard to pick one favorite thing. I love the ways Shaun and Julia work on skills with the group and each person regardless of their current skill level is given individual attention to improve. I also love the camaraderie of CFJ. Everyone is supportive of one another and we are excited to meet new members and welcome them into the group.
What keeps you committed to the CrossFit program?
I am committed because I can see the results both in my ability to workout with more intensity, my strength and the way my clothes fit. I also have more energy and feel great, not to mention that the massages are fantastic. I have always wanted to treat myself to a monthly massage, now I think of it not as a treat but as an important part of training: recovery.
What makes the CrossFit Julia experience special to you?
CFJ is special to me because of all the people.
What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit?
Come to a class, come to a class, come to a class!! And when you get to the class be ready to meet ten or twenty new friends that are ready to encourage you and will expect you to encourage them. We are a team that cares about helping each other improve regardless of your starting point.
Would you refer someone to CFJ and why?
Absolutely, I constantly refer people to CFJ because they want to know what is different in the last three months. I have been consistently working out for the last two years but not until CFJ was I pushing myself everyday to go further. I needed a trainer to push me now I have a gym full of friends that push me.
